The current discussion is about a 5 seater version that uses a 998cc engine and claims very high mileage. There are also claims of it being available at only ₹1.3 lakh. Exterior and Styling of New Maruti 5 Seater Car
The Maruti Alto still uses a compact body with short overhangs and a tall roofline that make it easy to drive in traffic and park in tight spaces. The newer front fascia has a slimmer grille and reshaped bumper. The headlamp clusters are larger and slightly swept back. The sides remain simple with small wheel arches and steel wheels in most trims. The rear is minimal with basic tail lamps and a flat boot lid.
The proportions remain very similar to earlier versions. This is intentional because it allows the car to keep interior space while keeping overall length within small car limits for lower taxation. Paint options are generally solid and metallic colours that are easy to maintain.

Cabin Space and Comfort
Maruti has kept the cabin layout simple. The front seats are upright and give a decent view of the road. The rear bench is flat but can take three passengers if required. Legroom in the rear is suitable for short to medium trips. Headroom is good for a car of this size.
The plastics are hard wearing and easy to clean. Storage areas include a glove box, bottle holders in the doors and a few cubbies near the centre console. The suspension is tuned for city driving and handles potholes reasonably well without making the ride too bouncy.

The 998cc engine is the main mechanical highlight. Maruti uses its K-Series dual jet, dual VVT petrol engine in the K10 variants. This engine provides more usable power than the smaller 800cc unit. It is available with a 5 speed manual gearbox and an AMT option in selected trims.
Safety features include ABS with EBD, front seat belt reminders, rear parking sensors and dual front airbags. Maruti has officially announced that all its models will have six airbags as standard by the end of 2025. This will improve safety for even entry level cars like the Alto.
Electronic stability program is being added to more Maruti models and is already present in higher trims. The Alto K10 also has a CNG variant for lower running cost where refuelling stations are available.
Mileage and Fuel Efficiency
Maruti claims an ARAI tested mileage of around 24 to 25 kmpl for the 998cc petrol manual variant. The AMT version has similar figures. CNG versions have higher energy efficiency and can reduce running cost significantly.
There are online claims of 32 kmpl for petrol variants. These figures should be treated with caution unless supported by official ARAI certification or long term road tests. In real world conditions with mixed driving, owners usually see between 20 and 26 kmpl on petrol. On CNG, running costs per kilometre can be much lower depending on fuel prices in the region.
Price and Booking
The ₹1.3 lakh price figure appearing in some reports does not match current official Maruti pricing. As of 2025, ex showroom prices for the Alto and Alto K10 range from about ₹4.2 lakh to ₹6.2 lakh depending on the variant. On road prices are higher once state taxes, RTO charges and insurance are included.
Booking amounts at dealerships vary but are generally between ₹5,000 and ₹11,000. EMI payments for a new Alto start from around ₹9,000 per month with a small down payment and standard loan terms. If you are looking for a ₹1.3 lakh car, you will need to check for pre-owned or old stock vehicles, as no current new Alto is available at that price.
